Ringtones

Formats

Ringtones are available in three formats:

• RTTTL (RingTone Text Transfer Language) is a simple text format describing the ringtone. Depending on your phone, you can either use directly this format, or use a converter. Numerous tools allow to transfer directly this format to your mobile.
• Nokia Composer. Some Nokia phones (such as the Nokia 1100) include a ringtone composer. This format simply shows you the ringtone as it should appear on your phone.
• Keypress. This format is the same as the Nokia Composer format. But, instead of showing you the ringtone as it appears on the screen of the phone, this format indicates the sequence of key presses to be entered in the phone to create the ringtone.
• Nokia Binary, also known as SCKL, because all the messages begin with //SCKL. This format allows to send (by SMS) ringtones to some Nokia phones and other brands. Depending on the length of the ringtone, the file will contain from 1 to 3 messages, that have to be sent to the phone using classic tools to send an SMS: your phone (not for the faint hearted!), or specific software (e.g., PC Suite from Nokia, Phoneman for Psion, etc.).
• MIDI. It is a classical MIDI file, in format 0 (single track). It is the basis from which all the ringtones have been created. Depending on your phone, you can either use it directly, or use a converter.
